Table Free Design

Using tables for layout is bad. They are intended to be used to display tabular data, not to create complex layouts. Of course, the number of times I’ve seen them used the right way recently can be counted on one hand.

All too often, people use tables to create a grid for laying out complex websites. While this may have been acceptable back in the days of Netscape 4, it’s really not now. If you’re clinging to tables for layout, you’re giving yourself a world of pain for no reason.

So why should you get rid of tables? Here are my top reasons to go table free.

Pietro Vischia has written a translation of the Table Free Design Campaign in Italian.
